The Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority (LGSETA) provides an environment to facilitate the training and up skilling of local government employees and people involved in local government structures, as well as unemployed youth in South Africa.
This entails creating and implementing a variety of skills development interventions such as learning programmes aimed at local government employees, traditional leaders, ward councillors within the structures of local government, as well as unemployed individuals.
As a developing country, South Africa’s local government workforce plays a key role in service delivery, hence, the importance of having a skilled and capable workforce cannot be overemphasised; not only does it improve the lives of South Africans, but it also assists all structures of government in meeting their constitutional mandates.
The LGSETA is one of 21 SETAs that were relicensed by the Minister of Higher Education and Training for the National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS) lll. The SETAs' license periods were extended by two years, from 2016-2018, and were further relicensed until 2020.
